Revised my original drawings to be more cheerful and colourful, I also started drawing the beetles out and started trying to show how they might recycle their materials.
Ok, I think there are two more steps towards consistency...
1) The largest character (Metal) needs some sense of clothing to bring him into line with the rest of the characters (see attached).
2) Your smallest character (plastic) used two colours where as all the others are one with tone changes. I'd suggest using two colours for all your characters.

Note: Choosing colours shouldn't stop you modelling etc, you can choose/ develop these as you go.
Clarification: Two main body colours (with two additional/optional accent colours).
